I don’t know about you…but I’m still thinking about my incredible July 4th weekend! Here is the info I promised on a great Montana “must!”
:::VIRGINIA CITY, MT:::
It is a city packed with fun history, great corky people, and cute shops that won’t break the bank. You can take train rides, mine for gold, eat churned-right-in-front-of-you ice cream, and even watch an act in the historic theater all in this small town. I remember going as a kid and it being fun but 15 years later it is still a hoot! — I still even said the words, “Mom, is that candy shop still there?!” You will see what I mean when I get to the taffy pictures! They also have more adult things like the Brewery Follies, click here – not seen in my pictures.
Some of the shops are still set up like they were back in the early 1900’s/late 1890’s!!
This place was called the “Gypsy Arcade,” where you can participate in the old carnival type games for 5 cents-20 cents!!
The two items below I found in this Artisans shop. On the left, called a “Re-Pit Warmer” for your aches and pains…filled with Flathead Lake Cherry pits, warm it in the microwave and viola it’s a heating pad! On the right, hand crafted ladles from a Virginia City artist.
The infamous salt water taffy machine! Isn’t it magnificent! All cut and packaged right in front of you! And the FLAVORS!! I love the Huckleberry and Watermelon. So many more to choose from! Sad to say ours just ran out…didn’t last very long.
Ice Cream…yummm. Jake’s flavor: Cowboy Coffee Erika’s flavor: Peach Cobbler. Divine.
Hope you are having a great week!
Montana is an incredible place…not only does it have incredible scenery but it also has my family. We had a blast floating the river, playing croquet while the sun set and enjoying good food/company! I am sad that the long weekend is over…it was too fun and relaxing!
Here is a sneak peek of the incredible scenery just around the bend from my mom’s house. More to come tomorrow! Including some “musts” for your next adventure to the great state of Montana (because you should have more than one)!!
This is a field of the mustard plant…consider a weed to some and a crop to others.
